Exhibition by faculty and alumni

The exhibition House Designs by Faculty and Alumni of the Department of Architecture, AUS was held at the Main Gallery of the School of Architecture and Design (SA&D) March 16–April 9 The opening was attended by Chancellor Winfred Thompson and other senior AUS officials. A symposium entitled “Education versus Practice” followed the exhibition opening. Mr. Marlon Blackwell, architect and professor at the University of Arkansas, and Mr. Marc Angelil, architect and professor at the ETH, Zurich, were the featured guest speakers at the symposium.

The exhibition, which was open to the public, featured the works of faculty members of the Department of Architecture as well as its alumni. Mr. Blackwell also delivered a lecture entitled “Building Between” at the SA&D auditorium. Blackwell's work has received national and international recognition through AIA design awards and architectural publications including Architectural Record, Architecture, Arquine, Summa+, Interiors, and Southern Living.

His residential projects are featured in design books including The New American Cottage, 40 Under 40, StarterHauser and The New American House 3. He has also taught at Syracuse University.

He was selected by a US national jury as one of the top 40 designers under 40 years old in 1995. In 1998, the Architectural League of New York recognized him as an “Emerging Voice” in architecture. He has been invited to give lectures on his work at many institutions including the Architectural League of New York, the University of Miami, the University of Texas at Austin, University of Tennessee and Kansas State University among others.
