New York University (NYU) Madrigal Singers and Jazz Choir performed at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the university's Old Business Building Rotunda, as part of their tour of the UAE.

AUS faculty, staff and students as well as their families, enjoyed an afternoon of great music from these talented musicians from the United States.

NYU Madrigal Singers is a small, coeducation ensemble of between12-16 singers dedicated to the joy of Acapella singing. The group is trained by Nancy Shankman to perform all music without a conductor and they have a range of challenging repertoire in their singing which includes music from Renaissance to Contemporary and all things in between.

The NYU Jazz Choir based in New York City, is a unique ensemble dedicated to exploring the colorings of vocal Jazz. Under the direction of Ira Shankman, the choir draws its repertoire from the traditional standards of Jazz's great and contemporary arrangements from popular jazz groups such as the Real Group, New York Voices, Manhattan Transfer and the King Singers. The voices unite in exquisite harmonies and rhythms distinct to jazz to help promote the art form in new ways while respecting its cultural roots. With an emphasis on swing and bebop styles, the choir utilizes many strong vocal soloists to present their own voices through improvising and scatting around a melody. The singers are selected by audition from all departments in the university.

The event was organized by the Performing Arts Program of the College of Arts and Sciences.
