3rd AUS Intercollegiate Racket Tournament
March 2 – 4, 2008
The Athletics Division organized and hosted the ‘3rd AUS Men’s Intercollegiate Racket Tournament’ from March 2 to 4, 2008. The event proved to be another success for the division in terms of participation and level of competition. The tournament aimed to promote racket sports in the intercollegiate level and has proved to be an effective platform of publicity for AUS. Prominent educational institutions took part in this event competing in Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash and Badminton.

Tournament Overview
This event has seen considerable improvements as compared to past. Eight universities and colleges with eight teams competing in each event brought the total number of participants to 115 students. The technical level had considerably improved in all disciplines with more competitive environment. The first rounds were marked by the distinction of AUS teams as well as UOW, EAC and Bits Pilani leading to qualify for the second rounds.
The scores were too close in the semi final matches of squash and AUS dominated to qualify for the final. Aiming for the gold, AUS faced EAC in final game to be proclaimed as the winners.
The AUS table tennis team improved considerably this year and reached the semi-finals against Bits Pilani in an exciting match. AUS gave way to its opponent by a 3 – 2 score and played the third place match against GMC. The AUS team paid won the third place.
The tennis courts witnessed significant matches with skills. Two AUS players Mohamed Zaid and Sami Al Sadi competed for the first and third place to win the awards respectively.
In badminton, with execution of skill, speed, and flexibility AUS dominated the hard court and won the championship facing the undefeated Bits Pilani in an excellent final match.
Credits
Behind the tournament’s success lies the hard work and efforts of the Sports Complex staff. From day one, the staff performed very well contributing to the smooth organization of the tournament. Above all, the staff strived hard to portray a positive image of OSA and AUS.
I would also like to thank the participants and guests who made the event lively and successful. My appreciations go to Mr. Munketh Taha, Director of Student Activities and Dr. Saad Abrahim, Sports Complex Manager for their guidance and continued support for our events.
