AUS announces 32 scholarship recipients for contributions to campus life and athletic excellence
Thirty-two students at American University of Sharjah (AUS) have been awarded scholarships for Spring Semester 2026 to acknowledge their contributions to campus life and athletic excellence. Awarded through the Office of Student Experience, the scholarships highlight AUS’ commitment to recognizing outstanding active or athletic students whose efforts yield exceptional results.
This year, 16 students received the Active Student Scholarship, including Ahmad Omar Aoude, Alyazyeh Ebrahim Alshehhi, Anas El Sayed, Hamza Mustafa Ratlami, Iliya Afshin Mogharrar, Khadijah Ali Minhas, Maryam Yaseen Khan, Mohammad Mahmoud Abubaker, Mohammed Arman Imtiaz Chy, Naaz Khan, Qais Hussein Abu Iktish, Qusai Mohammad Al Tah, Sanjana Monish Bharwani, Tala Shaker Ali, Tayyam El-Amki and Zyad Mohamed Elmosalamy. Recipients were selected based on their exceptional contributions to campus life through cultural and interest-based clubs, community service, leadership groups, Student Council, and academic associations and societies.
“Receiving the Active Student Scholarship for the second time, and being the youngest recipient to do so, is a humbling reminder that lasting impact comes from taking initiative. As a first-generation student, my journey has been blessed with community service opportunities, which taught me how to show up for others with sincerity and empathy every step of the way. Through challenges and balancing multiple student roles, I’ve discovered that persistence, sacrifice and competence are the main ingredients for long-term success. At AUS, the sky is truly the limit, and this recognition strengthens my commitment to take initiative, give back, lead by example and turn every relevant opportunity into a responsibility,” said Mohammad Mahmoud Abubaker, who is majoring in industrial engineering at the College of Engineering (CEN).
A further 16 students received the Athletic Scholarship: Abdallah Ashraf Abdelfattah, Abdullah Tarique, Ahmad Chakif, Ahmed Mohammed Samir Bondok, Ali Mohsen Eldemerdash, Areej N Khalil, Bana Mamdouh Khairallah, Dana Fadi Alhendi, Frederic George Khalaf, Hassan Ahmed Eraky, Lana El-Tannir, Maya Jaafar, Nelly Karim Abdalla, Sara Ahmed Hamza, Thanseeha Charivupuradathil Biju and Ward Furany. The scholarship is awarded to talented student-athletes who excel in sports, demonstrate good sportsmanship and dedication, and maintain a strong record of consistent participation.
“Winning this scholarship reflects the consistency and effort I put into training every day. The support and high standards set by my coach and teammates push me to give my best through demanding training sessions, games and tournaments. Our volleyball schedule creates an environment that allows athletes to grow and perform at a high level. Balancing this commitment with my academics and other scholarships has strengthened my discipline, time management and communication. This award shows that my hard work is being recognized, and it motivates me to keep pushing myself both on and off the court,” said Lana el Tannir, a major in marketing at the School of Business Administration (SBA).
Commenting on this semester’s awards, Shaima bin Taliah, Vice Chancellor for Student Experience, said: “It is always inspiring to celebrate students who help shape the AUS experience through their community engagement and athletic performance. Facilitating an active student life and athletics are essential elements of an American-style liberal arts education. These experiences also help to cultivate students’ leadership skills by giving them the confidence, discipline and interpersonal skills needed to succeed beyond academics. We are extremely proud of this semester’s awardees and excited to see them continue to grow and make an impact.”
