Public Health

Safety Division concern with public health in AUS community, fulfill society's interest in assuring conditions in which people can be healthy.  Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public health is vital to all of us all of the time, In collaboration with Safety Division, and Public Health Department  follows to Sharjah  Municipality,  together  aims to protect and promote the health of AUS community and their visitors, to enhance public health practice and support workforce development.

Actions will be taken directly by Public Health Department to prevent the development and spread of disease and illness. It includes activities such as health surveillance and the introduction of regulations to prevent the exposure of individuals to health hazards. Consequently, Public Health Department already has started doing a good job in conducting the required check up concerning:

Food Control

Concerning the conditions of public health, this required to be available in AUS cafeterias and restaurants. The Food control Department of Sharjah Municipality handles the check up responsibility of    food and drinks in the restaurants and cafeterias at AUS campus.

  • Restaurants and Cafeterias at AUS campus technically are under the control of Sharjah Municipality Food Control Department.
  • The Inspections operations and following up the public health, surveillance by the inspectors of food control Department.
  • The schedule for the inspectors visits program to university campus for checking the food and drinks in the restaurants and cafeterias is periodically (Twice per month),
  • The violations or any unacceptable performance is subject for taking precautions and sanction procedures by public health inspectors such as, confiscate the materials, warning letters, and closing the outlet.

 Nutritionist/Hygienist at AUS is responsible for a daily food hygiene and food quality inspection, in addition to the implementation of the conditions relate public health in the restaurants and cafeterias, and follow up with custodial services manager executing the recommendations issued by the inspectors of the Food control Department, concerning the works of maintenance and hygiene

Drinking Water

  • Sharjah Municipality Environmental laboratory sends his staff to AUS campus periodically, to check the tanks of drinking water.
  • Drinking water will be subject for the lab analysis if there was any failure has been noticed concerning the water tanks.
  •  Operations and Facilities Departments are responsible for taking any precautions or improvements will be required for the drinking water.

Swimming Pools  

  • Sharjah Municipality Environmental laboratory sends his staff to AUS campus on monthly base, to check the swimming pools existing at Sport complex and Leisure center.
  • The checking is done by sending samples to the lab for the analysis.
  • Test result usually delivers to Safety Division

Management of sport complex, and leisure centre are responsible for taking any precautions or improvements will be required for swimming purposes.

Environmental Control

 Sharjah Municipality Environmental Control Department sends his staff to AUS in order to:

  1. Remove the rubbish from AUS campus on daily bases, including the official holidays and days of weekend.
  2. Conduct pest control operations outside AUS buildingspermanently
  • Prevention of flies conducting on weekly bases. Monday from   8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
  • Prevention of mosquito conducting on weekly bases. Thursday from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
  • Prevention of rats be conducted if needed and after prior permission (Environmental Control Department must notify AUS officially).

Operations Department is responsible for monitoring the level of performance concerning the daily operations of which scheduled to be achieved through the staff of the Environment Control Department.  Security Department must follow the required precautions and facilitates achieving the above scheduled tasks in such cases.
