Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Shamlan
Director-General, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Kuwait
Dr. Al Shamlan has served as the Minister of Higher Education in Kuwait.
At Kuwait University, he has held the positions of Professor, Chairman of the Department of Geology, Assistant Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Science.
He is a member of the board of various institutions including Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain; Gulf University for Science and Technology, Kuwait; Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, Oxford University, United Kingdom; and the Prince Charles School of Traditional Arts; Kuwait University. He has also served as vice president and treasurer of The Science Academy of the Developing World (TWAS).
Dr. Al Shamlan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington, USA; a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Texas at El Paso, USA; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geology from Kuwait University, Kuwait.
He is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, USA, and the Founding Fellow of the Islamic Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Al Shamlan has published numerous scientific papers, written a geological book and supervised a thesis at master's degree level.
