CAAD faculty generate scholarship— creative work and research— in a wide variety of areas and topics. Designers translate research and knowledge into innovation. Many of these scholarly activities come under the following broad categories:
Culture mediates in significant ways among parties engaged in communication. As host to populations drawn from much of the world, this region is critically dependent on effectively understanding and utilizing communication, art and culture.
Built and natural systems interact in very complex ways that have emergent and unexpected outcomes. In particular, the Gulf region presents a unique set of circumstances in which to understand these interactions as they play out now and in the future.
Technological advances make possible the design, assembly and deployment of new and exciting media systems that respond to evolving needs and particular circumstances.
New ideas about materials and their use in structures push the boundaries of what is possible. In particular, these ideas are realized using state-of-the-art facilities and tested to better understand their potential and the limits to their use.
