About

CAS  >  Departments  >  Mathematics and Statistics  >  About

Through a diversity of undergraduate and graduate courses, we offer our students a first-rate education in the core competencies of mathematics and provide them with the necessary skills to   become critical thinkers and creative problem solvers of tomorrow.

The department aims to provide students with the mathematical ability needed to fulfill future leadership roles. Innovative teaching and learning environments provide opportunities for

students to develop necessary skills that prepare them for careers in exciting and rapidly expanding fields.  The department specifically strives to ensure success in finding appropriate

employment as well as success in graduate work for those desiring to further pursue their formal education.

Many of our students choose to major in mathematics. However, for those students who are simply looking to develop a strong math background to supplement a different major, we offer very popular minors in actuarial mathematics and in applied and computational mathematics.

While providing contemporary mathematics education, our ambitious department communicates and applies advanced mathematics through internationally recognized research, graduate education and engagement with the wider community through professional consultation, academic collaboration and other outreach activities.

We support our students’ learning by providing tutoring services through the Math Learning Center and organize a wide range of extracurricular seminars and conferences to encourage and stimulate students to expand and develop their mathematics skills and interests.
