Welcome to American University of Sharjah's Performing Arts program!

As part of this exciting program, you'll embark on an experiential journey filled with countless opportunities for personal growth, knowledge acquisition and self-exploration. Our program is designed to spark your inherent creativity, encourage leadership and foster skills that are indispensable for real-world challenges. By choosing one of our minor tracks, you take control of your personal and professional development journey.

Our curriculum offers a diverse set of course offerings tailored to suit varying interests and aspirations. We provide two meticulously designed tracks in music and theatre, each with a well-rounded 18-credit curriculum. Far from restrictive, these tracks serve as a springboard for exploration across a broad spectrum of studies and applications. |-BREAK-|

Music minors will have the opportunity to delve into both traditional and contemporary vocal and instrumental repertoires, which will help improve their musicianship, public performance and ensemble collaboration. The curriculum allows students to receive private instruction in either Western or Arabic music, thus catering to diverse musical preferences.

The theatre minors are introduced to the enchanting world of dramatic arts through experienced faculty who provide comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences. From delving into characters' psyches through acting, to weaving stories via costume design and construction, our students are immersed in various aspects of performance. They'll also get a chance to learn invaluable supportive skills such as scenic design and stage management, both crucial to the success of any theatrical production. For those drawn to the powerful realm of words, an exciting journey in playwriting also awaits.

The Performing Arts Program is committed to fostering creative minds. We strive to ensure our students not just learn, but also innovate and leave their unique marks on the world of performing arts. We look forward to seeing you here!

Why choose the Performing Arts Program?

The Performing Arts Program offers students a unique opportunity to delve into the fields of music and theater. By choosing to pursue a minor in theatre or music, students get an in-depth understanding of the fields through theoretical study, and showcase their talent by taking part in concert performances and theatrical productions. They also gain valuable hands-on experience by participating in the technical and backstage components of music and theatre productions.

The program also offers exciting introductory courses for students who have an appreciation for music and theatre, but choose to pursue their studies in different areas, such as business, architecture, humanities and social sciences. We provide theatre courses on dramatic expression and the history of drama and dramaturgy, as well as music courses on aural and sight-singing skills, choral ensemble, classical musicology and world music. Our presentation and performance courses foster creativity and promote participation, inclusiveness, diversity and understanding in an increasingly interdependent world.

Some of our students are aspiring actors, musicians and singers, while others are interested in the history and development of music and theatre as a field of study.

Our esteemed faculty members not only carry out original research in their specialties but also have extensive experience as performers in the fields of music and theatre.

We invite you to become part of our vibrant and creative world.
