Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

GRE is not offered at AUS Testing Center.

Applicants are required to submit General GRE scores for admission to the PhD in Engineering - Engineering Systems Management (PhD ESM) program at AUS.

The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills — skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not related to a specific field of study but are important for all.

American College Testing (ACT)

ACT is not offered at AUS Testing Center.

Applicants who apply to AUS holding American High School Diploma are required to submit a valid ACT or SAT score report to support their applications.

Applicants are required to have their ACT score reports sent directly to AUS by choosing ACT code: 7899.

Test Score Verification

AP (Advanced Placement Test)

AP exam is not offered at AUS Testing Center.

American University of Sharjah recognizes the Advanced Placement Exams and awards advanced standing credit, on a case-by-case basis, for those students who take the exam and receive a minimum required score as determined by AUS. Students who earn advanced standing may be exempted from taking certain AUS placement exams, depending on the subjects/courses taken and the grades earned.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

AUS is an authorized testing center for the GMAT exam.

GMAT® exam is a standard test for predicting the academic performance for graduate management programs. The GMAT test measures the higher order skills appropriate for graduate management education.

Applicants are required to submit either GMAT or MBA Admission Test scores for admission to the MBA program at AUS.

MBA Admissions Test

The intended purpose of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Admission test is to assess a prospective student's capacity to succeed in the MBA program. Although the test does not measure business knowledge or skill, it allows us to asses a prospective MBA student's analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in preparation for being admitted into the MBA program.

AUS Placement Tests

All admitted applicants are required to take Major Placement Tests to be able to register for freshman-level courses. Upon receiving the Letter of Admission, admitted applicants are requested to apply online for math and physics placement tests as required by their intended majors. In order to be able to apply online for the English Placement Test, admitted applicants are required to have a minimum score of 550 on the Institutional TOEFL or 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS (Academic)or 1550-1650 on EmSAT Achieve.

Test of Written English (TWE or EWET)

This test gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to write about an assigned topic. They will be given 30 minutes to write their essay; and the essay will be scored in a holistic way.

The score will be based on the candidate's ability to organize his response clearly, sight examples to defend or clarify his position; and to write an effective conclusion.

For candidates applying for MA TESOL, the minimum TWE score required is 5.0.

AUS offers TWE test on every OPEN TOEFL date at 9.30 am. TWE is a paper and pencil exam.

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test.
