| 2. Grading the Thesis at AUS
In all master’s degree programs at AUS, the thesis is graded by your thesis supervisor and thesis committee on a Pass/Fail basis. There are generally three possible outcomes of your oral defense. Your committee could recommend that you:
- Pass the thesis
- Pass with revisions, which may or may not require additional semester(s)
- Fail
If your thesis passes at the oral defense, you are ready to submit your thesis to the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs for certification and, after certification, to the AUS Archives within the Library for archiving and binding. See Section 4 and Section 5, below.
If you pass with revisions, you will be required to make the changes recommended by your thesis committee and re-submit the revised manuscript to the committee. You may or may not be required to re-defend your thesis based on the recommendations of your committee.
Important: Until you have passed your thesis and oral defense, you may not submit your thesis to the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs nor may you graduate.
