School of Architecture and Design
Department of Design
Curricula
The Department of Design offers three degree programs: visual communication, multimedia design and design management. The visual communication and multimedia majors share core classes that are studio based and offer a wide-ranging education in design concepts and techniques, social and cultural considerations, and build skills in concept development and visual communication. Students work on a wide rage of projects in different media. The broad humanities-based education that students are exposed to while at AUS contributes to their development as creative, experimental thinkers who have a broad overview of the design and communications industries and the cultures from which they develop. Our graduates have taken active roles in the quickly growing media and communications industries in the region. Other graduates have gone on to graduate degree programs at the School of Visual Arts, Central Saint Martins College, California Institute of the Arts, Yale and other respected institutions.
Students
The Department of Design thrives on having a diverse student population with different cultural backgrounds speaking multiple languages and coming from high schools of diverse academic orientations. Our students have a well-earned reputation for producing top-quality work, both in conception and execution, which has been recognized in local and regional design competitions.
