Dr. Kamal Abdel-Malek

Assistant Professor in the Department of Arabic Studies

Dr. Kamal Abdel-Malek received his PhD in Arabic Studies at McGill University in 1992 and is currently an associate professor of Arabic language and literature at American University of Sharjah. He also taught at Princeton and Brown universities. He is the author of several books and articles on Arabic literature and cultural studies including his innovative two-part textbook, Talk Like an Egyptian, Walk like an Egyptian: Learning Egyptian Arabic Through Actions. Professor Abdel-Malek is the 1998–1999 recipient of Brown University’s prestigious Wriston Fellowship for excellence in teaching Arabic language and literature as well as research.
