Call for Papers

We invite you to submit proposals related to the following subthemes:

  • Bilingualism, multilingualism and multiculturalism,
  • Bilingual acquisition,
  • Language planning and policies in K-12 and higher education,
  • Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) approaches,
  • Uses of languages in multilingual contexts,
  • Applied language research,
  • Bilingual identities,
  • Language and politics,
  • Teaching  Arabic in a global context,
  • Teacher training in bilingual settings,
  • Language attrition,
  • Realities and challenges to bilingual education.

 

Although the focus of the conference is on the Middle East, proposals dealing with bilingual issues in different geographical and cultural contexts are welcome.

Abstracts in either Arabic or English are welcome. During the conference, English translations will be provided.

Types of Presentations:

Individual Papers:

 Each presentation will be allocated 45 minutes (including Q&A).  Papers can be theoretical, research-based, or practical.  An individual paper proposal should clearly state the purpose of the paper, the nature/type of the paper (i.e., theoretical, research-based, or practical), and how it relates to the conference theme. The organizing committee may group papers falling under a common theme into a panel.

Panels:

Panels can be pre-organized on a common theme and should have three to four presenters and a discussant. Panelists will have 90 minutes.  Panel proposals should describe the session and its significance as it relates to the conference theme.  In addition to the panel abstract, each individual presenter should submit an abstract.

 

Workshops:

Workshops should be practical in nature.  Workshop facilitator(s) will have 60 minutes to deliver the workshop.  A proposal should describe the workshop and its significance as it relates to the conference theme.
