Interfacial fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, optimization of petrochemicals and oil and gas processes, process modeling and simulation, sedimentation, oil pollution and environmental engineering.
Current research work: sedimentation of monosize and polydisperse suspensions; spills of volatile liquids; spreading on porous media; viscous-gravity spreading of time-dependent oil spill volumes on water; surface-tension spreading of oil on water; ethane recovery optimization; dynamics of partial wetting; coating processes.
Dr. Rachid Chebbi received his Diplôme d'ingénieur from the Ecole Centrale de Paris, and obtained his M. S. (1984) andPh. D. (1991) from the Colorado School of Mines.
Before joining the University of Qatar in 1991, Dr. Chebbi worked for the Tunisian Ministry of Economy, Shell Tunisie, and Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activités Pétrolières.
In September 2000, Dr. Chebbi joined the United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Chebbi held different administrative positions. He served as director of the Internship & Work Integrated Learning Unit, as member of the office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, and as coordinator of the External Scholarship Program. Also Dr. Chebbi served as chair and member of different councils and committees at the university, college and department levels.
In August 2006, Dr. Chebbi joined the American University of Sharjah as professor of chemical engineering.
