Microwave Imaging and Nondestructive Evaluation Laboratory (MINEL)

Room Number: EB1-008

Lab Instructor: K. Ibrahim Abu Saif

Lab Director: Dr. Nasser Qaddoumi

Course Number: ELE 453L and ELE 458L

The Microwave Imaging and Nondestructive Evaluation Laboratory (MINEL) is equipped with a synthesized sweep oscillator (0.01-20 GHz), a rectangular waveguide microwave training kit, an antenna training and measurement system, a satellite ground station, a global positioning system trainer, scanning tables and a wide variety of active/passive microwave devices and components.

MINEL also contains a network analyzer, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters and arbitrary function generators. It is used for introducing applied microwave nondestructive measurement techniques and fundamentals of antennas, radars and microwave engineering. The lab is used for testing composite materials, plastics, concrete structures and metallic structures. Research is conducted on a number of topics including on the design and development of microwave non-destructive testing systems, and antenna systems.

This lab is primarily used for teaching antennas and wave propagation, microwave systems, and carrying out class and design projects.
