Women as global leaders

Dr. Nada Mourtada-Sabbah, Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of International Studies, and Dr. Pia-Kristina Anderson, Assistant Professor of Arab and International Studies, led a delegation of 35 AUS students to take part in the international conference “Women as Global Leaders: Educating the Next Generation,” which was held on March 14 at Zayed University.

The conference, which was eld under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the UAE Women's Union and in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education, UAE, focused on the emerging role of young women as the next generation of leaders in their respective countries. This international conference brought together women students from 41 countries, representing all regions of the world.

Some 250 foreign delegates attended the conference, and over 1000 attendees were present. The students had the opportunity to interact with internationally recognized women leaders including Dr. Gro Harlen Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and former Director-General of the World Health Organization; Kim Campbell, former Prime Minister of Canada; Tipper Gore, former advisor to President Clinton; and Patricia de Stacy Harrison, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the US.
