Student Achievements Zainab Al Haj Yahya, a visual communication student in the School of Architecture and Design, won second place at the prestigious Memefest: Festival Internacional de Comunicación Radical. Her work, entitled Veiled, was published in journals all across Slovenia and included in a special exhibition, which has been shown in Berlin and Portugal. . Many students of Mr. Amir Berbi_ and Mr. Shoaib Nabi's VIS 360 Fundamentals of Media Theory course participated in this international competition, and several made it to the shortlist. School of Engineering student Akram Bin Sediq is one of 10 international winners of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society's Undergraduate/Pre-Graduate Scholarship for 2005–2006. He was recognized for his project “Near-Field Microwave Imaging of Composites,” which was supervised by Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Dr. Nasser Qaddoumi. Ayla Qadeer, a senior student in Literature 490, presented her paper “Raymond Carverʼs Short Stories: Unspeaking the Answer” at the New York College English Association fall conference held at Nazareth College of Rochester, New York, October 14–15. Ms. Qadeer prepared her paper, which examines the narrative voice in Carver, under the direction of Dr. Judith Caesar, Associate Professor of English.
