College of Engineering discusses new internship programs

The College of Engineering (CEN) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its annual gathering recently to discuss its internship programs for engineering students. Dr. Yousef Al Assaf, Dean of CEN, explained the current CEN internship process and the improvements planned. 

"We have on average 500 to 600 students to place into internships every year, and that's just those studying engineering at AUS," said Dr. Al Assaf, addressing the invited employers and engineering students on the occasion. "It's a massive undertaking. Internships are very important to us, as they give our students a taste of the real world. Internship also is instrumental in helping our students to choose real life projects to work on during their capstone final year design projects". he said.

Dr. Al Assaf also spoke on the advantages of internships, required by all students before graduation. "Benefits to the interns include the application of skills, networking, the gaining of new skills and the enhancement of their resumes," he added.

Rami Mahfouz, Outreach Coordinator of CEN, spoke about the current internship process, and how future improvements will be made including adopting appropriate on-line tools and enablers to make the internship experiences for companies and students beneficial and effective. The event was attended by senior officials from CEN, as well as faculty, students and their parents.
