The Pink Caravan comes to AUS

Oct 24, 2011

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) Health Center, in collaboration with the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, hosted the Pink Caravan campaign against breast cancer,  on October 24, where several members of the AUS community turned up dressed in pink in support of the campaign.

A Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) initiative, this campaign aims to promote breast cancer's early detection program Kashf. The Pink Caravan Campaign is under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

The event included an informative presentation on breast cancer, its symptoms and methods of early detection. The interactive session helped the audience to better understand this disease and ways to combat it. Free breast exams were also provided at the University Health Center and women were given self-help brochures containing information on self-examination.

The Pink Caravan strives to make the latest state-of-the-art early screening technology accessible to all women in the UAE. The goal is to raise AED 15 million in order to continue to reach out to the people of the UAE and provide them with technically advanced methods in screening for breast cancer and providing support networks.
