Why should I have Media and Printing edit and/or design my publication?
Our experienced writers and editors not only check for grammar and spelling problems, they also review a publication for clarity, structure and organization. In addition, they keep abreast of the latest AUS facts and figures.
Although you may wish to create your publication using your own desktop publishing program, our professional designer is able to ensure that your publication supports the established university identity while meeting your communication needs.
Where do I start?
Please complete the briefing form, have the appropriate dean or director sign it and send it to Nazzal Yousuf, Media and Printing Manager. He will assign the appropriate staff member to work with you based on your project needs. Our staff members can proofread, edit and design your publication.
What does Media and Printing need from me?
The first thing needed is the completed, signed briefing form. This form lists key information such as your requisition number from Banner, the quantity needed and your deadline.
Please supply your text in Microsoft Word. Please do not bold, italicize (except book titles) or underline text, use all caps or include any other formatting in your text. Our editors and designer will format the text as they prepare it for production.
Will I see a proof?
You will see a proof of your publication before it is sent to the printer. Please make sure to return the proof as quickly as possible. Once the publication has been sent to the printer, changes can be expensive and will cause delays.
How can I get an ad in a publication?
First, contact Nazzal Yousuf, Media and Printing Manager, at extension 2157. He will help you determine the best media plan for your advertising needs based on your budget and target audience. To get started, please provide a requisition number from Banner along with your deadlines and goals.
Advertising deadlines vary among types of publications. For daily newspapers, please contact us no less than four working days before the day you want the ad to run. Ads for monthly and quarterly publications must be prepared much further ahead of time.
How much will my project cost?
While the Media and Printing department does not charge for its services, your office or department must pay for advertising space and for any printing and production costs, which vary according to the job. The Purchasing Department submits all requests for printing quotes.
How will I be billed?
Media and Printing sends all invoices to the Purchasing Department. Requisition and purchase order numbers are noted on the invoices.
How long will my project take?
The more complex your project, the more time you should allow for its completion. The Media and Printing staff will give you an estimate of the time your project requires.
Can you give me an AUS logo?
The Media and Printing Department can provide you with a high-resolution digital file of the AUS logo. Please do not copy the logo from the website and use it in a print publication. This will result in a poor representation of our logo.
Where can I get photos for my publication?
The Media and Printing Department has albums of professional-quality photographs. If we don’t have what you need, we can help you contact a professional photographer.
