Research Projects in Microelectronics

CEN  >  Departments  >  Electrical Engineering  >  Research  >  Research Projects in Microelectronics

Collaborators: Dr. Lutfi Albasha (AUS) with several faculty.

The core research in this area is focused at low power radio frequency and microwave integrated circuits and systems. This includes investigation of transceiver architectures, circuit designs and front-end ICs for mobile phones applications (time-lined from GSM to 5G mm-wave ICs), terrestrial and mobile digital TV standards (DVB-T/H) and Radar (Stretch processed transceivers). More recent research efforts include sensors, energy harvesting and wireless power transfer techniques for biomedical and smart city oriented applications. Within sensor systems field, signal propagation in smart grids and low cost antenna chambers has been investigated.

Research Lab and infrastructure: Two dedicated labs for research and teaching in RF microelectronics. The Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Lab, with full Cadence Suite, Keysight Advance Design Systems (ADS) and Mentor Graphics packages, and the Microelectronics Integrated Systems Lab, with a purpose-built class 10,000 cleanroom equipped for on wafer measurements up to 40GHz. The electrical engineering department at AUS is able to complete the full design cycle from design to testing in-house, dealing with MOSIS for fabrication. The total funding portfolio for research grants is almost AED 3 Million (Over $815,000). Some of these grants are listed below.
