Academic Affairs

Mission and Responsibilities

The Division of Academic Affairs offers students exceptional academic experiences by providing all formal instruction through both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing courses. The division is dedicated to continuously improving the academic preparation and experiences of students by:

  • assessing and evaluating the curricula and pedagogical approaches for currency and to reflect best practice
  • providing up-to-date resources and scholarly materials, and modern facilities and equipment
  • hiring and retaining faculty who contribute to the curricula and the mission of the university
  • supporting the professional development of faculty, and the scholarly activities of faculty and students
  • monitoring, assessing, assisting and maintaining records of student academic progress

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs strives to facilitate achievement of the highest possible standards of academic excellence. The office is responsible for overseeing all graduate, undergraduate, and non-credit curricula and instruction; all faculty and staff reporting to the academic affairs division; and academic budgets, facilities and operations.

The four college/school deans report to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, as do the directors of the Academic Achievement Center, Academic Administration and Operations, Graduate and Undergraduate Programs, Library and the Office of the Registrar. The Office of Research, Academic Instructional Technology and Faculty Development Center also are housed in the division.
