SA&D professors at the Sharjah Biennale

Department of Design faculty members Mark Pilkington, Tarek Al-Ghoussein and Chris Kienke exhibited their work at the Seventh Sharjah International Biennale. Their work was accepted for inclusion at this major art international art event by the exhibition's Director Sheikha Hoor Al Qassimi and head curator Jack Persekian. This represented a significant example of dissemination of their work within an international context for critical peer review for the three professors.

In addition, internationally acclaimed curators and art critics participated in two symposiums organized in collaboration with the biennial, AUS, the University of Sharjah College of Fine Arts and the public at large. School of Architecture and Design (SA&D) faculty members Brian Dougan, Mona El Mousfy and Mark Pilkington worked with the curator and organizers to develop the format of the symposium and the round table discussion, which was held at the museum on April 7. Mona El Mousfy, Assistant Professor of Interior Design, also worked with the curator and exhibition organizers on the design and installation of the exhibition at the Expo Centre.

The website Universes in Universes, based in Berlin, Germany, is a comprehensive Internet information system for the visual arts that published an extensive photo report on the 2003 Sharjah Biennial. The site's authors Dr. Gerhard Haupt and Pat Binder worked with selected SA&D students supervised by faculty member Tarek Al-Ghoussein to visually document and report on this year's Sharjah Biennial and its associated context of the city of Sharjah.
