Hungarian quartet performs at AUS

A large audience at American University of Sharjah (AUS) enjoyed a wonderful performance by the Liszt String Quartet held last night, October 24, to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Franz Liszt as well as the Hungarian national day. The concert was held in the AUS Main Auditorium on campus.

A famous 19th-century Hungarian composer, pianist, conductor and music teacher, Franz Liszt contributed significantly to the modern development of the art of music. He was said by his contemporaries to have been the most technically advanced pianist of his age and perhaps the greatest pianist of all time.

The quartet comprised four accomplished musicians from Budapest who are all either current or former students of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. The quartet played famous pieces by renowned composers that included Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusic; Felix Mendleson's Capriccio; Scott Joplin's The Entertainer; and Henry Mancini's Ragtime.

The event was organized by the Event Management Department at the AUS Office of Public Affairs and presented by the Cultural Events Committee at AUS.
