Annual Awards
The College of Engineering (CEN) introduces the CEN Annual Awards to recognize students’ excellence and contributions across many categories including academic, research, leadership, community service, and talents.
Call for Application:
The CEN invites students and alumni to apply to one or more of the CEN Annual Awards for the year 2023.
- 1. CEN Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award

Description:
This award recognizes the academic achievements of AUS CEN undergraduate students. CEN undergraduate students compete for one of the seven categories below:
- Highest ranked CHE student
- Highest ranked CMP student
- Highest ranked COE student
- Highest ranked CVE student
- Highest ranked ELE student
- Highest ranked INE student
- Highest ranked MCE student
Rules Specific to this Award:
- Students do not need to nominate themselves. The winners are selected and announced by the CEN based on their CGPA.
- The student must be on the prospective graduating candidates list of Fall 2022 or Spring 2023.
- The student must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.7.
- In case of a CGPA tie, the award will be given to the student with the highest number of credit hours.

- 5. Outstanding CEN Student Leadership Award

Description:
This award recognizes an AUS CEN student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities at or outside the university. It recognizes the accomplishments of creative and entrepreneurial minds who were involved in the invention and/or commercialization of a useful product that benefits society.Rule Specific to this Award:
- The applicant has demonstrated leadership traits during their study period at AUS.

- 6. Outstanding CEN Student Community Service Award

Description:
This award recognizes AUS CEN students who have demonstrated an extraordinary contribution to the improvement of their Departments, the College of Engineering, the American University of Sharjah and society in general.Rule Specific to this Award:
- The applicant has conducted the community service during their study period at AUS.

- Impact on society
- Length of the service
- Nature and difficulty of the service
- 7. Outstanding CEN Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

Description:
This award recognizes the best CEN Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for their exceptional work in terms of teaching, usefulness and interaction with students, and helpfulness to faculty and lab instructors.Rules Specific to this Award:
- The applicant should be involved in at least 10 hours of lab teaching per week during the academic year 2022/2023
- Faculty, lab instructors, and students may be contacted for feedback about the applicant’s performance.
Selection Criteria:
- Competency and technical knowledge
- Helpfulness to faculty and lab instructors
- Interaction with students
- Motivation and commitment
- 8. Outstanding CEN Student Talent Award

Description:
This award recognizes an exceptional AUS CEN student who demonstrates a talent mainly in a non‐CEN related field. Talents include, but are not limited to, music, painting, sports, and many others. Students with CEN related talents can also apply provided they exhibit an exceptional talent related to the field.Selection Criteria:
- Proficiency and excellence
- Creativity
- Originality
- Media presence and engagement with target audience
- 9. Most Engaged CEN Alumni Award

Description:
This award recognizes a CEN alumnus or alumna who was actively engaged with the CEN in promoting and advancing its reputation, has offered his/her services to the CEN Department(s), or demonstrated sustained excellence, accomplishment, and creativity in their professional field during the academic period between 2018-2023.Rules Specific to this Award:
- Application is open only for AUS CEN alumni.
- Alumni engagement took place during the academic period between 2018‐2023.
Selection Criteria:
- Degree of involvement with the CEN
- Importance and impact to the CEN
- Extent to which they set a role model to existing CEN students
- General Rules

- The application deadline is on March 20, 2023.
- The applicants must not be involved with any academic dishonesty or misconduct incidents at AUS.
- Application is open only for full-time AUS CEN students during Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 and AUS CEN alumni
- Awards can be self-nominated unless otherwise stated.
- Applicants are encouraged to provide sufficient evidence that targets each criterion for better chances of winning.
- The award winners in the previous years may not apply to the same award again. They can apply to other CEN Annual Awards instead.
- The CEN holds the right to cancel any award for a particular academic year without prior notice if the selection criteria are not met by any applicant.
- Trophies and Certificates of achievement will be provided to the winners. In addition, winners accomplishment will be highlighted on the CEN website.
