Department of Computer Science and Engineering | American University of Sharjah

Head of Department

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at American University of Sharjah (AUS). The current CSE curriculum is crafted from the three pillars of artificial intelligence, data science and smart cities. Our goal is to provide our students with an amazing educational experience to help them achieve their long-term goals. Our curriculum is continuously upgraded to meet need of the changing world. We use hands-on laboratories to enrich the students’ experience and our students often work on industry-sponsored graduation projects.

With a truly international faculty and student body, our department offers two degree programs at the undergraduate level, as well one master’s degree program. Our Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCoE) degree and our Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) degree have received accreditation from the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates. The Computer Engineering (B.S.) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,, under the General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s) and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. The Computer Science (B.S.) program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET,, under the General Criteria and Program Criteria for Computer Science and Similarly Named Computing Programs. |-BREAK-|

Even though both of our undergradute programs share a common set of courses, they each have a different and distinct flavor. While the BSCS focuses on software, Internet technologies and programming, the BSCoE covers a balanced mix of topics in the area of hardware, networks and software. Both degrees appeal to technically minded students with a curiosity for today's fast-changing technology. The curricula for both programs is grounded in academic excellence and designed to produce graduates who are exceptionally competent and whose work is notable for its technical excellence.

Located in the Engineering and Sciences Building, our department has state-of-the-art smart classrooms and labs, including more than 10 labs related to hardware, software and networking. We also use various smart digital services to improve students’ learning and university experience, including electronic advising and attendance monitoring.

Please feel free to explore our website to learn more about our programs. If you would like to drop by for a visit, we would be happy to show you around.
