The Manufacturing Laboratory is equipped with a variety of conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools in addition to a range of sensors to measure, monitor and control machining processes. It is used to conduct tests to examine the machinability of the work material, assessing the factors that affect the machining performance, optimizing the cutting conditions for a given operation. In addition, it includes a section for sample preparation and rapid prototyping. The laboratory is also used to produce a physical product and explore the effect of varying the process plan on cost of production and product quality.
