Career Advising and Placement Services

CAPS, Career Counseling and Placement Services, provides a variety of services to students, employers, alumni and faculty.

Its main concern is for students to make the right start on their career path. This can only be achieved by educating them about the different majors available, their definitions, related occupations, possible employers, personal attributes needed, ways to get experience, and internet resources.

Students always have misconceptions about certain majors and unfortunately base their choice on wrong information which leads either to a change of major or to academic frustration that causes a delay in graduation or a total drop out.

CAPS is currently providing personal counseling services for students and matching majors with careers through one on one sessions, giving handouts, identifying resources, and organizing programs in different schools where speakers talk about each major from a career perspective.

Career information and planning, placement services, career counseling, and follow up activities are the core of CAPS vision. Working hand in hand with students CAPS assists them in developing their job searching skills through presentations and workshops on resume/cover letter writing, networking, interview preparation, and acquiring time management, team work and communication skills.

CAPS has been successful in its outreach programs to students, faculty, employers and alumni. Most of its activities focuses on the interaction between AUS and the industry and on providing counseling and career oriented support to academic programs.

Through this interaction employers participate in CAPS plans and projects such as the "Career Fair" and “Engineering Open Day”, at the same time students experience the work environment by serving their internship and getting full time employment with different industrial and business organizations.

Employers and students’ feedback has been very positive. This encourages both to repeat the experience in different ways. CAPS briefing to students before they go and getting their input after they perform any kind of job have helped CAPS assess each opportunity, take the positive side and avoid repeating what had a negative impact both on students and employers.

Through CAPS students got internships, training and employment opportunities which helped enhance their knowledge and get professional experience in different fields of study.

Also through CAPS employers identified excellent candidates for their vacancies realizing how well qualified our students are.

Our lecturers , workshops, seminars and presentations prepare students and graduates for successful interviews with future employers and help them translate their ambition and motivation into action and words.
