Our observatory engages in the following services:
monitoring of earthquake activity (via dispatched seismographs and strong motion recorders in remote areas) in northern UAE
assessment of seismic hazards at construction sites for design purposes
assessment of seismic risk of existing structures and development of recommendations, strengthening and remediation
assessment of seismic risk at petrochemical and industrial facilities
evaluation of local site soil dynamics effects (e.g., liquefaction potential, amplification, resonance effect, design response spectra)
geotechnical earthquake engineering design (e.g., pile foundation design, retaining structures design, earth structures design, offshore foundation design, ports and harbor design)
preparation of macrohazard zonation and microhazard zonation maps
preparation of geohazard maps (e.g., landslide hazard maps, problematic soil hazard maps)
evaluation of dynamic soil properties via the MTS 50 kN state-of-the art dynamic triaxial facility
providing expert opinion on earthquake hazard and related risk in the UAE and the Gulf region
providing community services, such as public awareness on matters pertinent to earthquake activity in the UAE and its surroundings.
conducting training workshops for engineers on analysis and design of structures and facilities for earthquake loading
providing expertise on development of earthquake-resistant design codes
design of machine foundations for dynamic loading in industrial facilities
supervision of undergraduate and graduate research in earthquake geotechnical engineering
