Augmented Reality in the context of Ubiquitous Embodied Game-based Learning (May 2012)
Game-based learning or "serious gaming" has been touted as the right paradigm for the current generation of students. Advances in technology have enabled "ubiquitous" games, where players interact with a technologically augmented world using socially-oriented, problem-based learning approaches. New areas incorporating affective feedback and embodiment are also being explored.
In this presentation, Dr. Imran Zualkernan will outline an ecologically founded theoretical framework for thinking about this class of learning games. A class of learning designs based a combination of problem posing and problem solving will be presented, and followed by a discussion of example implementations. A pleasure-based design framework for building and evaluating such games will also be explored. The talk ends by posing research questions.
