Biomedical Science and Engineering Symposium (March 2015)
The AUS student chapter of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) will host the Biomedical Science and Engineering Symposium (BSES) at AUS.
This event will host speakers from the field of biomedical engineering with experience in academia and industry. After the event, attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the speakers.The event is open to all faculty and students who are interested in current research in the field of biomedical engineering and sciences.
Session Speakers:
Dr. Hasan Al-Nashash
Dr. Hasan Al-Nashash has participated in establishing several electrical engineering departments in Jordan, Oman and the UAE. He has established the biomedical engineering specialization at Yarmouk University and at AUS. He worked closely with Johns Hopkins University and the American and Medcare Hospitals in Dubai. His research themes are in neuroengineering and analog microelectronics
Dr. Kinda Khalaf
Prior to joining Khalifa University, Dr. Khalaf held faculty appointments in engineering and medicine at the University of Miami (USA), American University of Beirut (LEB), where she held the first joint appointment between the faculties of Engineering and Medicine, and the American University of Sharjah (UAE). Dr. Khalaf has been conducting research in the areas of orthopedic biomechanics, computational biomechanics, and biomedical devices and biomaterials.
Dr. Ghaleb Husseini
Dr. Ghaleb Husseini graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Biomedical Track) from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA. His research interests involve sequestering chemotherapeutic agents in polymeric micelles, liposomes and other carriers and using ultrasonic power to release the contents to the tumor site, thus avoiding the side effects of conventional chemotherapy. His other areas of interests include non-viral gene delivery, ultrasonic bone-healing and surface modification.
Dr. Karim Ellaithy
Before he joined Philips Healthcare as its current Regional Clinical Scientist, Dr. Karim worked as a Research Associate of Computer Engineering, with focus on biomedical engineering, at Universität Leipzig in Germany. He had also worked as medical agent for Siemens in the past. In addition to his work in the industry, Dr. Ellaithy has published on several topics such as neural signal processing and modelling.
