Lecture by Geert Reitsma (March 2016)
You are cordially invited to attend a lecture on "Infrastructure is much more important than architecture" by Geert Reitsma, the Director of OMA (Office of Rem Koolhass) in Dubai. Reitsma's career spans 20 years and covers the commercial, academic and public sectors, with a raft of international architecture and planning experience.
Public investments in infrastructure within the GCC are increasing to further diversify economies, despite declining oil prices. Qatar and the UAE rank as #2 and #3 as the most dynamic infrastructure investment markets globally, after Singapore. These infrastructural investments provide huge opportunities for landscape and urban development, as a generator of public realm.
The lecture introduces Qatar as a case study and positions OMA's work within the current market and Qatar's historical development since the 1970s.
