Invisible Cities: Words and Rhythms about a Place Called Home (September 2016)

This January four women gathered in Dubai to talk about the growing number of refugees, homelessness, homesickness and our constant search for a place that feels like home. The result of that conversation provoked the writing of a series of diverse monologues transformed into a special interdisciplinary devised piece of theater entitled "Invisible Cities: Words and Rhythms about a Place called Home." Some of the pieces hold a dramatic narrative as others a more comical character driven voice.

The cast includes Farah Chamma (spoken word artist, actress), Dana Dajani (actress, poet, writer), Victoria Amador (writer, actress), and Mina Liccione (comedian, tap dancer, writer, director). On top of the words will be layers of movement and video alongside live rhythmic accompaniment by Beatbox Ray and soundscape designer Ahmad Molham Makki.

"We hope this mixed media devised work will inspire people to ask themselves what really matters in their own lives. After visiting a number of refugee camps, I started asking questions about home and talking to a lot of the families there. Their courage inspired me and also helped me put many things into perspective. Sometimes the most profound answers are the simplest of reminders. I love seeing theater or film based on truthful stories because I know it's coming from a genuine place. Having elements of powerful text, awesome music and imagery just adds even more depth, flavor and sometimes strong humor to the honesty. We all have memories of home that may now just be invisible cities; hopefully we can take your imagination there." - Mina Liccione.
