AUS Library Ed Talks: Author Talk with Dr. Silvia Salvadore (October 2023)
The AUS Library’s inaugural Ed Talks Series features Dr. Silvia Salvadore, Assistant Professor in the AUS Department of English.
As October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month comes to a close, join us to hear about Dr. Salvadore’s lived experiences of completing the final stages of her doctoral program as she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Learn how her dissertation helped her cope with this devastating diagnosis. Through autoethnography, Dr. Salvadore analyzes textual and visual artifacts to reflect on her multiple, fluid identities: graduate student, mother, wife, friend, daughter, cancer patient and, ultimately, a successful PhD graduate and cancer survivor.
Dr. Salvadore’s chapter "Interlude to a Degree: Autoethnographic Reflections on Dissertating After a Cancer Diagnosis" addresses her experiences and is included in the recently published book Narratives of TESOL Professionals: Experiences Navigating the Doctoral Program
