Towards Establishing the Culture and Infrastructure for Scientific Research (September 2020)
This presentation will share a personal experience in establishing the culture of scientific research during difficult times. The definition, scope and importance of scientific research will be highlighted. Furthermore, a case study stemming from being a dean of scientific research at Al-Quds University will be discussed. The presentation will conclude with a successful story about an effort to establish a school of research in wastewater treatment and reuse in agriculture at Al-Quds University, followed by slide show.
About the speaker
Mustafa Khamis is currently a professor in the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, College Arts and Sciences, American University of Sharjah. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University California at Davis in 1987, his Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Jordan in 1982, and his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Jordan in 1980. He joined Al-Quds University as assistant professor in 1987 where he was promoted to associate and full professor in 1996 and 2010, respectively. During his career at Al-Quds University, Professor Khamis served as Chair of the Chemistry Department, Acting Dean of the College of Science and Technology, Dean of Scientific Research, and Director and Founder of the Center for Chemical and Biological Analysis. Professor Khamis has approximately 80 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. He is currently an editor of Cogent of Environmental Sciences.
