Summary of the role |
The College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah is seeking applications for one postdoctoral position in the area of vibration of structures. The successful candidate will work with a team from the mechanical and civil engineering departments. The research work involves the analysis of the vibration control of plate structures subject to a variety of inputs. There will be a model and an experimental testing. Analytical and computational experience is needed in addition to an ability to design and run experiments. Responsibilities:

Summary of the role |
The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the field of structural control. He/she will work on a project to develop advanced novel, innovative control techniques for vibration mitigation in civil structures applications. The structural control will be implemented via active dampers to minimize vibrations and improve the earthquake resistance of buildings, bridges, etc. Key Responsibilities: • Develop novel adaptive control algorithms based on advanced mathematical models. • Design and implement sophisticated controllers on active dampers for civil structures. • Conduct experiments and simulations to validate the effectiveness of the developed control techniques. •Write and publish high-quality journal papers and research proposals. |

Qualifications |
• Ph.D. or equivalent in a related field, such as structural engineering (structural control), mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or control systems. Masters degree holders will be considered based on their relevant experience. • Strong background in control theory, especially adaptive control and intelligent systems. • Experience in experimental work, including designing and implementing advanced controllers for civil structures/mechanical systems. • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Demonstrated track record of high-caliber publications in the relevant research area. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. |
