The Hierarchy of Being: Architecture that Moves (March 2013)
Join Iraqi-American artist and NYU assistant arts professor Wafaa Bilal, Maraya Art Centre's associate curator Sara Raza and design architects Alexander Turner and James Crawford from the Royal College of Art London to discuss Bilal's outstanding new sculptural work. "The Hierarchy of Being" is an interactive work on the cusp of art, architecture and Islamic sciences and incorporates the scientific contributions made by Iraqi polymaths Ibn Al-Haytham and Al Jazari to explore optics and mechanical devices for kinetic motion and re-create the iconic camera obscura experience. This panel discussion chaired by Sara Raza will look at the re-appropriation of architecture, design and new media technologies within the context of public art, space and time in cities on the move. "The Hierarchy of Being" exists on the cusp of art, architecture, design and Islamic sciences and is a Maraya Art Centre public art commission that will inaugurate the Maraya Art Park, located at Al Majaz Park, Sharjah on March 20, 2013.
