The Rise and Rise of Green Cities (March 2016)
You are cordially invited to attend a lecture on "The Rise and Rise of Green Cities" by Steffen Lehman.
Over the last 13 years as a professor in Australia, Professor Steffen Lehmann has held a range of senior leadership positions at high-ranking universities, including: Head of School, Head of Architecture, director of two flagship research centres, and Research Chair Professor - providing strategic direction and delivering policy advice.
In his inspiring talk entitled "The Rise and Rise of Green Cities," Professor Steffen Lehmann will talk about his research in making cities climate-resilient. Designing cities for the post-fossil era has emerged as the new paradigm in global urban development. Due to our obsession with economic growth and excessive use of finite resources, the urban challenges, including rapid urbanization and sprawl, require us to think about cities in a new way.
Professor Lehmann will explore the notions of "green urbanism" and "zero waste city," which extends the concept of the sustainable city to include optimizing all urban material and energy flows. The aim is 100 percent resource recovery and re-use of building components and materials.
