AUS holds Symposium on Design for Fire Safety in Buildings and Built Infrastructure
American University of Sharjah (AUS) held the third Symposium and Workshop on Design for Fire Safety in Buildings and Built Infrastructure in the main building, today, March 13, 2016. The symposium introduced the participants to the latest advances in the field of active and passive fire protection systems for enhanced fire safety in buildings.
Organized by Dr. Rami Hawileh, Dr. Jamal Abdalla, and Dr. Farid Abed from the College of Engineering (CEN), the two-day symposium focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of engineering fire safety in buildings and built infrastructure.
The symposium began with a focus on the design and maintenance of active fire protection systems, including sprinklers, detection and smoke management systems as well as highlighting the latest technological advancements. The second part of the symposium will focus on the design, behavior and analytical modeling of structural systems under extreme fire conditions and properties of materials at elevated temperatures. The latest philosophies in performance-based fire safety design and analysis of structures in fire will also be presented along with evidence from real building fires as well as guidelines for enhancing the fire resistance of structural systems.
Gold sponsors of the event are Accurate Testing Lab. Silver sponsors are Material Lab and FOGTEC Fire Protection, and Bronze sponsors are UL. Honorary sponsors include Sharjah Municipality, Dubai Police and UAE Society of Engineers.
