M. Sajid Khan

Welcome to the Department of Marketing and Information Systems!

Our department offers two exciting majors: marketing; and management information systems. Both majors go hand in hand. Marketing is a world of fascinating consumer experience, whereas management information systems, on the other hand, is the application of technology to solve business problems. Our rigorous curriculum helps students attain skills in classic as well as advanced forms of marketing and management information systems. We bring innovative methods of course delivery to meet program objectives and course learning outcomes. Program requirements include a variety of coursework that draws heavily from the fields of marketing, management information systems, and supply chain management. Students are also encouraged to take minors in all three areas. We make sure that we prepare students, in our state-of-the-art classroom settings, into active members of the academic and professional community.

Our department offers students a unique platform to learn from our world-class faculty who come from backgrounds in marketing, information systems, and supply chain management. Our teaching philosophy underpins collaborative learning, apply critical and innovative pedagogy in undergraduate teaching, and encourage active engagement with key market players through various course projects. In essence, we offer small classes but our programs carry local, regional, and global competencies, a deeper understanding of important theoretical and methodological perspectives, and prepares graduates for future careers in a global context.

Our teaching is research-led. I invite you to explore our faculty research pages and learn more about the department. As you will see that our current research has appeared in some top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Retailing, Journal of Service Research, European Journal of Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, Tourism Management, Internet Research, Technovation, Omega, Information Systems Frontiers, Journal of Strategic Information Systems. Our faculty regularly presents their working papers in prestigious international forums. Our faculty also sit on editorial boards and serve as associate editors and editors of journals, and carry out assignments as chosen elected officers in international marketing and management information systems forums. As of February 2018, an aggregated impact of our research on Google Scholar shows more than 10,000 citations.

Students interested in our undergraduate program may contact our admissions office for further information. We would be delighted to meet with you if you visit the American University of Sharjah.

Anna Terekhova

“SBA provides many opportunities for both academic and personal growth. It is important that the skills we learn in different business courses can be later on applied to professional life, and not just in academia. With the help of various student organizations within SBA, we, as students, can take part in different extracurricular activities, conferences and seminars, as well as find support and advice when needed. Moreover, the Internship and Placement office provides excellent internship and career opportunities that can help students navigate the job market and become successful members of the business community.” – Anna Terekhova, a sophomore majoring in Management Information Systems
