AUS community participates in Healthy Heart Campaign
Members of the American University of Sharjah (AUS) community participated in a Healthy Heart Campaign to promote health and wellness on Wednesday, October 19 at the university's Student Center.
Students, faculty and staff members participated in the campaign which was organized to promote awareness on the risks associated with smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high sugar. Participants received registration cards and were given free check-ups to know their body mass index and the level of their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar. Smokers received counseling on quitting smoking and their blood carbon monoxide levels were measured.
"The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) ensures that health campaigns are organized throughout the year," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. "It is our intent to promote health and wellness among our community members as well as educate our students on health risks brought about by smoking, sedentary lifestyle and wrong eating habits."
The event was organized by OSA's Community Services Office in collaboration with the Preventive Medicine Department of Sharjah Medical District.
