AUS partners with Wilfrid Laurier University for a musical night
On the evening of February 18, 2014, the Memorandum of Understanding signed last summer between American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), Waterloo, Canada, was inaugurated with a music and poetry recital.
Representing WLU, Canadian soprano Leslie Fagan joined Spanish pianist Dr. Leopoldo Erice and poets Victoria Amador and Nicholas Karavatos from AUS, to perform a selection of pieces by Haendel, Schumann, Donizetti, Poulenc, Mompou, and Obradors.
The audience at the sold-out concert, held in the Rotunda of the Arts Building and organized by the Performing Arts Program at AUS, included His Excellency Ross Miller, Consul General of Canada; AUS Chancellor Dr. Thomas Hochstettler; and AUS Provost Dr. Malcolm Richards, among others.
Leslie Fagan has been invited on multiple occasions to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall, and has been acclaimed by Opera News for her "stunning precision and musicality." Dr. Erice is a world-renowned concert pianist and the founder of the Festival Internacional de Música Clásica de Ribadeo.
