AUS students participate in the World Business Dialogue in Germany
Six students from the Office of Student Affairs' Student Leadership Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) attended the 16th World Business Dialogue at the University of Cologne, Germany held March 13-14, 2013.
The World Business Dialogue is considered one of the most important platforms for discussion in Europe. This year's topic was "Next Generation Business Strategies: Finding New Business Strategies." The dialogue touched on different aspects of the topic of social responsibility, leadership and innovation, e-mobility, entrepreneurship, Islamic finance and startups. The conference drew 300 students from over 66 countries, 300 corporate participants and top speakers representing the fields of economics, science and politics. The conference featured keynote speakers, interactive panels, executive sessions and workshops that enabled the students to obtain a balanced perspective of the new business strategies. The conference aimed to bring students and experts together to better understand the emerging business strategies and changing needs and expectations of the younger generation.
The participating students were Anam Shahid, majoring in management; Nadia Samir Alsafi, Nada Eyad Al Assi, Faisal Al Shehhi and Hessa Ali Al Ali, majoring in finance; and Mohammad Omar Hukan, majoring in electrical engineering.
"The World Business Dialogue was an amazing multicultural experience that made me see the world with different perspectives," said Al Ali.
According to Hukan, "Someone might wonder what is an engineer is doing among a group of business students in a business conference. I myself had some doubts and worries about not being able to keep up with all the business terms and that I would be left out. On the contrary, this was one of the best, most useful and most interesting conferences I have ever attended. I really enjoyed the panels, the workshops and the executive sessions and didn't feel like an outsider even for a second. I can honestly say that this was one of my best experiences with the Student Leadership Program, and I would like to thank them for providing me with such an amazing and fruitful opportunity."
"The Office of Student Affairs encourages students to participate in events such as the World Business Dialogue in order to provide them with a platform to interact with international students, experienced entrepreneurs and inspiring speakers. This helps students enhance their interpersonal, communication and leadership abilities by forcing them to put their skills into practice," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
