Leopards runners up at AUS Intercollegiate T20 Cricket Tournament 2016
Universities from across the UAE participated in the eighth edition of the AUS Intercollegiate T20 Cricket Tournament held at the AUS cricket ground from March 17- 23, 2016. The tournament, which was conducted by the Student Athletics and Recreation Department on a knock-out basis, saw some key competition between eight prominent universities who fought well for the championship.
AUS played their first match against City University College Ajman on March 19 and won it by a margin of 62 runs. In the semi-finals, the Leopards knocked out Abu Dhabi University by 120 runs and entered the finals to play against BITS-Pilani, Dubai. AUS scored 132 runs in their allotted 20 overs in the exciting final match but BITS-Pilani chased the target in the last over and emerged as the winners.
Skyline University Sharjah, Canadian University Dubai, BITS-Pilani Dubai, City University College Ajman, Abu Dhabi University, Manipal University Dubai and Middlesex University took part in the tournament along with the host AUS.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, congratulated the prize winners and promised more opportunities for the cricket players in the university arena.
AUS batsman Mohammed Umar Shaikh received the "Batsman of the Tournament" award while Mohammed Fouad Azfar Khan of AUS was selected as the "Best Bowler of the Tournament" for his key performance throughout the tournament.
In the post-match presentation ceremony Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation Department, awarded the trophies and medals to the winner and runner up teams.
