Office of Student Affairs hosts fundraiser to fight hunger
he American University of Sharjah (AUS) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) hosted a bake sale and a mini bazaar in the university's Student Center on December 10 to raise funds to support the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) campaign to eradicate hunger.
More than 20 student volunteers from OSA's Community Services assisted in organizing the day-long bake sale and mini bazaar. Home-baked goods were on sale and an assortment of branded gift items and gadget accessories were offered at reasonable prices. Donation boxes were in place to accept cash donations.
"In this campaign, we aim to highlight the global problem of hunger and how it is being addressed by the international community. We want to educate our students on how they can make a difference to ease the plight of those deprived of the basic needs in life," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. "I wish to thank the student volunteers for spending their day for a worthy cause and our sincere appreciation goes to those who contributed to the campaign," she added.
All proceeds of the campaign were presented to WFP. WFP is the largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Each year, WFP feeds over 90 million people including 20 million children in more than 70 countries.
