Generally, a Graduate Assistant (GA) performs administrative tasks, serves as a lab or teaching assistant, and/or reads and grades student papers under moderate to minimum supervision of the faculty supervisor. GAs are appointed on a semester-by-semester basis.
The director of your graduate program or your faculty supervisor will provide you with a written statement of duties and assignments at the beginning of your appointment. It will be your responsibility to understand the expectations for your work, but your workload will consist of no more than 20 hours per week. Final decisions concerning GA appointments are made by the Provost through the Office of Graduate Studies.
