Making Memories (December 2011)
Maitha, a student at Zayed University's Art and Design program, has displayed her work throughout the UAE, Korea (Heart of Phoenix exhibition at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, 2011), Spain (Sharjah Emirates Foundation Exhibition, 2011), and Paris (Middle East -North Africa Contemporary Art, 2011).
She documents her emotions and feelings about the world through the use of flat bed scanners. She then digitally composes an image based on small scans, often up to at least 50, which create a refined, yet spontaneous expression of life. The result is both an objective and mechanical record of the forms that have been captured through light, but also through pose, body language, composition, medium, and particular scan quality.
