What on Earth Does “PhD in Architecture” Mean? (March 2013)
A lecture by Dr. Miguel Jaime, Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture, AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design.
From the speaker: "PhD is the acronym for Doctor in the Philosophy of a certain matter. Thus, a PhD in Architecture should mean that there is something like a philosophy of architecture. This is exactly what Dr. Rafael Moneo thought when he founded the Chair in which I did my PhD in Architectural Design at the School of Barcelona. This lecture is going to demonstrate that it is possible to love the knowledge of architecture and to praise the design process at the same time."
Dr. Miguel Jaime has a PhD by the School of Architecture of Barcelona, and has been Visiting Associate in Architecture at Harvard University. His book The Reflexive Nature of Modern Architecture (published in Spanish in 2000) is recommended bibliography in various universities in Spain. Dr. Jaime's architectural work has been awarded in national and international architectural design competitions and has built work in America and Europe.
