The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the College of Arts and Sciences invites you to attend a seminar by Dr. Ismar Volic from Wellesley College, MA, USA.
The goal of this talk is to introduce some of the main methods and applications of algebraic topology. Dr. Volic will first discuss the basic setup of turning topological problems into algebraic ones using ideas like homology and homotopy, and then describe some of the most interesting open problems in topology such as homotopy groups of spheres and classification of knots.
